2023 What's that now?

This year began inauspiciously with the flurry of Christmas over and the cold seeping into my psyche, I wasn't really ready for a New Year and all that those capital letters entail, I don't think I was quite done with the old one yet.

It felt appropriate to snuggle down, huddle in and hibernate a little.  To regroup, debrief and reflect on the whirlwind that last year became.  January marched efficiently on without my involvement or engagement and other than some rather radical clearing out, achievement was not showing up on my agenda.

On my daughters 9th birthday, with my hands full of modelling chocolate (as a sculptor-mumma, my daughter has very high expectations for her birthday cakes!) I got a very pleasant surprise of my own when an email dropped into my Inbox from Potfest, inviting me to show my work at the upcoming Scone Palace event on the 9th, 10th & 11th June.   Having had over 900 applications for only a hundred or so places I was pretty chuffed to get in on first try.  So, with the boost of knowing I have the biggest show of my life to prepare for (so far!) I finally stopped avoiding my tax return and filled it in so I could move on to more exciting things.

Since then, I have been working on preparing my studio for a larger work flow, and as clay and North East weather patterns are not best friends on how to a) keep work in progress wet b) get finished work to dry and c) get my recently acquired (free) kiln to actually work.   Needless to say, there are no timelapses in life and no miraculous makeover team hanging out to complete the task in 60 minutes so we have already arrived in February with nothing tangible to show for it.

I have however, learnt some new finishing techniques, namely mono-printing on clay which I am very excited to try and seem to be developing some sort of 60's flower power theme in my head for the next body of work - but lets see what pans out.  I was born in the 60's, well 1969 so it still counts, I still aspire to be a total hippy but somehow I have never quite managed to go there - maybe I'm saving it for my retirement.

I am at the point now where I am itching to get working again, which is always a good sign.  So I will keep you posted to my progress & post up some sneak peaks on my social media as I get into the thick of it again.

In the meantime if you are interested in any of the available sculpture on my website, or in a commission - drop me a line and I would be delighted to chat to you.
